Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the South Windsor Jaycees?
The South Windsor Jaycees, formed in 1992, is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization comprised of men and women between the ages of 21 and 40. We are part of a larger organization, the Connecticut Jaycees, which is a part of the US Jaycees. The term Jaycee is short for Junior Chamber of Commerce.

What's the purpose of the South Windsor Jaycees?
We promote leadership training and the development of personal skills for our members through community involvement. Jaycee members develop new skills and enhance existing ones by becoming involved with our many projects. By becoming involved in organizing projects for the community, members have the opportunity to realize hands-on experience that will ultimately sharpen one's leadership and management skills.

What charities/causes do the Jaycees support?
South Windsor Food and Fuel Bank, South Windsor Bark Park, Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, South Windsor Car Seat Safety Program, South Windsor Boy Scouts, Down to Earth Garden Club, South Windsor Cheer Team, South Windsor Swimming, South Windsor Fire Dept, South Windsor Police Dept, Local School Systems, T.R.A.C.S. and Protectors of Animals.

What kind of projects do the South Windsor Jaycees do?
The South Windsor Jaycees are known for their highly successful fundraiser the Wapping Fair. They receive equal recognition for their Community Development events like Paws in the Park, Breakfast with Santa, Pet Food Drive and other events supporting those in need. The South Windsor Jaycees also run Individual Development projects that are very popular such as our socials and family outings. Picnics, ball games, billiards nights, dinner socials and more give members plenty of opportunities to meet other members. Our projects are only limited by our member's imagination. Your project can benefit your chapter, your community or both. You decide!

How often are general membership meetings?
We meet once a month at 7:00 pm on the 1st Tuesday at the South Windsor Community Center on Nevers Road in Room 205.

What goes on at a general membership meeting?
The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm.  Light dinner and beverages are served at all meetings. The Jaycee President facilitates the meeting and follows an agenda. Then we informally go over our upcoming events and announcements.  You will have a chance to ask questions.  Meetings generall last about an hour.  After the meeting boards members are happy to answer any specific questions
Who can come to the membership meetings?
Everyone is welcome to attend our membership meetings.  We encourage you to bring friends.  The more the merrier!
Do you have to be a member to attend a Jaycee event?
No. Our events are open to everyone.  However, if the chapter is offering a discount it would apply to members only.

I have another obligation and can't attend membership meetings.  Can I still be a member?
Of course.  There is no attendance requirement for meetings.  We have several events each month and you can participate in as many or as little as you like. We have weekly emails and to communicate all our events to members.
Do you have to live in South Windsor to be a member?
No.  We have members from all over the area.
Is there an age requirement to be a member?
Yes.  South Windsor Jaycees members have to be between the ages of 21 and 40.
What happens when you turn 40?
Members can renew their membership until their 41st birthday. You can become an associate member if you are 41 years when it time to renew your membership. You can still participate in events, but are not permitted to be elected to a board position. Initial dues are only $20.

Is there a minimum requirement for participation in events?
No. The Jaycees is a unique organization that does not require participation in events.  We have a saying around the Jaycees, "You get out of the organization what you put into it". You decide your level of participation.
What if I am interested in trying something new?
Then propose a project. Our philosophy is to support and encourage the ideas of our members. We will assist in the development of a budget and a plan of action. Members are constantly looking for new challenges and ideas.

How can local businesses or other nonprofits work together with the Jaycees?
The chapter is always looking to team up with businesses in regards to sponsorships or assisting with volunteers at our projects. Contact any of our board members to discuss how your company would like to work with the Jaycees.
How much are membership dues?
$20 to join and $50 for annual renewal.  In addition, the chapter offers credits to members that chair projects (or committees on our largest projects Paws in the Park and Wapping Fair) or hold board positions.

How do I join the South Windsor Jaycees?
The best way to join is to just come out to an event, meet our members and sign up right there.  If you have questions please contact Michelle at
